Studies

As a higher education institute, ésam Caen/Cherbourg trains creators in the fields of art, graphic design and edition.

It is one of the 45 French public Art and Design schools led by the Ministry of Culture, and a member of the national French art schools’ association (Andéa) as well as the Communauté d’Universités et d’Etablissements (ComUE) Normandie-Université.

Today’s art school is about new approaches, experimentation, community of artists, economy of production in a context of crisis but also about interpretation of our time beyond the issues of gender or medium. Training is voluntarily multidisciplinary and transversal at ésam Caen/Cherbourg.

Education focuses on the interconnection between theory and practice. Studies are organized through lectures, workshops, personal research, studio work, study trips and professional training. Teaching is provided by a team of 33 professors working closely with 14 specialized technicians. Guest lecturers are invited throughout the year to give conferences, workshops and seminars.
The school’s 250 students are following courses leading to European level diplomas :

 The Bachelor degrees (in Art or Graphic Design) which lasts 3 years ;

 The Master degrees in Art or Design (with majors in Edition or Design and Transitions) which lasts 2 years.

Study scheme, course lists, course contents and schedules are available in the study book.
